About Zane King & Journey Records

Zane is a native of Searcy, AR and the son of Johnny and Sue King. Like many in our industry today, the sounds of artists like the Hinsons, the Happy Goodmans, and the Rambos heavily influenced the beginning of his music career. Even before he reached his teens, Zane was an outstanding steel guitar player and had traveled extensively, giving concerts and teaching seminars. He later had his own recording studio in Arkansas. God provided Zane with a wonderful opportunity to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston on a scholarship.

In 1994 Zane moved to Nashville, Tennessee. Within a short period of time, he caught the attention of several gospel music industry leaders, including the folks at Zion Music Group. During his tenure at Zion, Zane had the opportunity to work with many of Southern Gospel's premiere groups, including the Crabb Family, the McGruders, the Lesters, Ivan Parker, the Anchormen, Heaven Bound, and scores of others.

After working at Zion for several years, Zane left to become A&R director of Homeland Entertainment Group's roster of artists. In addition to his A&R duties, he established a developmental label for the company, and Journey Records was born. N'Harmony and the Dove Brothers were the first artists signed to the label. Later Journey Records became an independent company with Zane at its helm. Current artists on the Journey Records roster include Skyline Boys, the Riffle Family, Right Spirit, and The Young Family, the Sargents and Jenny Engel. In conjunction with the recording company, he launched his own publishing company, Journey Press Music (BMI).

StudioZ is Zane's own recording studio where he has produced several artists including Chosen Few, Russ Lee, Heaven Bound and many more. He also produces custom recordings for some regional artists.

For almost ten years, Zane has been using his organizational and production skills to produce the Artist Spotlight showcases for the National Quartet Convention. For more than ten years, he has served in the Southern Gospel Music Guild (SGMG), an organization whose members represent companies from all areas of the southern gospel industry, including record companies, booking agencies, artists, radio, concert promoters, and music publishers.   This year he was elected to serve as the President of that organization.

Another path he has taken along his journey led Zane to being an active participant in the music program of his church, New Vision Baptist, in Murfreesboro, Tenn. He served as the church band leader and pianist for seven years. That led to his meeting Debra Hall in a Sunday school class there, who, remarkably, is also from Searcy. The couple was married in March of this year.

Zane's journey has also directed him to an association with Compassion International, a child development organization that focuses on lifting children out of poverty in Jesus' name. He is developing a roster of predominantly Southern Gospel artists that will participate with Compassion's marketing program.

This year Zane has started his own music ministry and is traveling and singing in churches across the United States.

Spending as much time as he can with his eight-year-old twins, Skylar and Lauren, is by far one of the most enjoyable parts of his life.
